Read Before You Buy: Check Ceiling & Duct Clearance

Cooker hoods are large, fragile appliances with strict clearance requirements. Please check the following before ordering, so the product is suitable for your kitchen.

UK homes are typically designed with a 2.4m ceiling height, but services such as heating pipework often eat into that, leaving only around 2.2-2.3m of usable height in many kitchens - tighter than some of our current hoods need. We are developing new models better suited to lower UK ceiling heights.

• Ceiling height: allow the hood's height plus roughly 30-35cm extra above it for the ducting and the non-return (check) valve - this extra allowance is easy to miss.
• Hood type: a standard reverse T-shape (chimney) hood needs more clearance because the motor sits on top of the hood; side-draft and slim-profile hoods need less, as the motor is built into the hood body itself.
• Hob width compared with hood width
• Wall opening size required for this model
• Duct route: number of bends, total distance and outside exit point
• Cabinet clearance, depth, strength and cut-out space
• Possible pipes, wires, beams or soil pipes above the hood
